Sometimes it's just time to take the next step: anyone who is bored in the job is looking for new challenges. However, before you actually submit the termination, you should be aware of a few things.
Long gone are the times when you spend your whole life in a position in the same company. Nowadays it is even necessary to change the job more often, to gain more expertise and to take different perspectives. A study conducted by the "LinkedIn" job network shows that university graduates currently receive almost twice as many jobs as the generation before in the first five years after university.
If you think about a change, you are not alone with your thoughts. Whatever reasons you have to leave your job, these things you should consider:
1. Imagine a career plan
Where do you want to go in your profession? Whether it is a higher salary or a better title that encourages you to consider a change of job - before you break off your tents in your current job, you should try to make yourself aware of your ultimate goal. It usually sounds literally far-fetched to think about where you look in ten years, but this thought game will allow you to illustrate the next steps of your career and determine where you should go next - and what you can expect from the new job promise.
2. Invest in yourself
How can you develop yourself without changing the job? Sign up for further training, work out additional qualifications, such as SEO skills or Google AdWords foundations, or refresh your school-French. Even if these skills are not directly related to your previous job, you will consider them as a member of your current company, and such competences are also good in the curriculum vitae. Who knows, maybe you are already waving a promotion in your current job?
3. Check your motivation
Perhaps you already have a concrete job envisioned or have a wishful place from which you have long dreamed. Either way, you should consider whether the new job really offers you new challenges and perspectives, or whether only the novelty of the job is exciting. After all, you should grow at and in your job. If you cancel, you should not step on the spot, and, after the exciting start time, find where they were in your old job as well.
4. Ask your plans
Do you believe to know what the next step on your career ladder is? Then compare your current position with the prospective analytical. In most cases new jobs with a higher salary are attracted - but what about holidays, retirement, childcare etc.? If the new job brings you disadvantages in the long term, it is time to think about the planned termination and to look for alternatives.
5. Appreciate your contacts
Be aware that leaving your company is a loss - and that you may find a disappointment with your colleagues and the boss. Take this as a compliment and remain conciliatory. You never know when the paths cross again, and when you may be dependent on contacts from former colleagues. If you decide to cancel, you remain fair: Announce early enough, and thank your boss for the time in the company and the opportunities that have been offered to you. Maybe it's no goodbye forever.
